Music
Beginning Mixed Chorus
Students will learn the basics of music reading and interpreting written music. Basic music theory, sight singing and composition will be taught as well. Students are expected to sing in large groups. Performance opportunities will be made available at the end of the second semester of the course.
Beginning Band
Students will learn the basics of how to play a woodwind, percussion, or brass instrument and how to read the appropriate pitches and rhythms that make up music. Composition and basic music theory will be taught as well. Performance opportunities will be made available to students who are ready and/or express interest in doing so.
Dual Credit Music
Dual Credit Music is a music class that Mather students can take in which they can earn credit from Truman College. The curriculum for the class is aligned with a music appreciation class at the City Colleges of Chicago. Students must score at least a 480 on the verbal section of the SAT to be eligible for this class.
Guitar
Students will learn basic guitare skills including chords, single notes, finger picking, strumming patterns, note reading and basic music theory. Students will learn to play a variety of music styles. No previous music experience is required.
Intermediate Mixed Chorus
This section is only for student that have had a year of Beginning Mixed Chorus. All students will be expected to perform at any/all school performances with the option to perform at festivals and competitions.
Advanced and Honors Mixed Chorus
This section is only for student that have had a year of Intermediate Mixed Chorus. All students will be expected to perform at any/all school performances with the option to perform at festivals and competitions.
Advanced and Honors Band
Students will continue with woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments; music theory, solo and ensemble experience.
