I'm Mr. Vazquez and this will be my 5th year at Mather High School. Prior to coming to Mather, I taught in Coal City, Illinois for two years and have experience working in the Mokena and Joliet public schools as well.
I was born and partially raised in Chicago (shoutout to James Otis Elementary!) However, I did middle school/high school in Plainfield, Illinois and completed my bachelor's degree in trombone performance and music teaching licensure at the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!). There, I participated in the Symphony Band, Jazz Repertory Ensemble, Hawkeye Marching Band, Riverslide Trombone Quartet, Chamber Orchestra, and various other groups. I completed my Master's in Music Education degree at DePaul University and am obtaining my TESOL certificate at Northeastern Illinois University.
The music department at Mather strives to make music accessible for every student. We have a plethora of beginning instrumental classes and there is no fee for instruments at Mather. In addition to our band classes, I also lead our Latin Music Ensemble- a group of student musicians who play music from throughout Latin American.
Please reach out if you have a question about any band or music class. Go Rangers!
